Walking on Tinos
4. Circular walk around Exombourgo - "Castles and Dovecotes"

We transfer from Tinos town to Ktikados from
where our walk begins. Walking on donkey trails we pass at first
the neighbouring village of Hatzirados before we start our ascent
towards Kambos and Tarambados. Near Tarambados is the famous
valley of the dovecotes - a highlight of today's walk.
After crossing the valley we reach the hidden village of Smardakito
with its refreshing spring, from there we descend to Loutra,
which used to have a Jesuit monastery and a school of the Ursuline
nuns. A climb through Koumaros is going to take us to the former
Venetian Castle on Mt. Exombourgo. Spectacular views await us.
An easy walk downhill will bring us back to Ktikados for a well-deserved
lunch. An hour's walk on one of the most ancient paths of Tinos
gets us back to town. |
